Monthly Decision Support

You don't have to make every important decision alone.

For the owner or leadership team who says: "I feel alone when the important decisions arrive."

Decisions get bigger as the business develops, and the consequences matter more. There are often fewer people you can speak to openly. Monthly Decision Support gives you experienced, evidence-led challenge — better questions, more deliberate decisions.

Recognise this?

When every important decision lands with you.

  • You have several options and none feels obviously right.
  • The financial consequences are becoming more significant.
  • Other directors don't always agree.
  • You keep delaying a conversation you know needs to happen.
  • Your advisers understand parts of the problem, but nobody sees the whole picture.
  • You want challenge, not somebody telling you what to do.
  • You're worried about making the wrong decision.
  • Doing nothing is also becoming a decision.

What it does

What Monthly Decision Support does

Monthly, 90-minute decision meetings built around the biggest decisions actually facing your business — evidence-led challenge, leadership alignment where it's needed, and a repeatable way of thinking things through.

Monthly Decision Support helps the owner decide where to move.

  • Evidence-led challenge
  • Leadership alignment
  • Decision Confidence Planner
  • Decision Calls when needed
  • A record of decisions and lessons

Where it starts

Start with context

Monthly Decision Support begins with Strategic Planning — not as the main recurring purpose, but so every decision is considered against what you're actually trying to build.

  • What do you actually want?
  • What does the business need to look like to provide it?
  • Where are you now?
  • What's in the way?
  • What needs to be true over the next 12 months?

A decision can only be "right" in the context of what you're actually trying to build.

The format

The monthly decision meeting

We start by looking back — which decisions worked since we last met, which didn't, and whether they were based on evidence or emotion. We look at the current evidence relevant to what's ahead: cash, KPIs, pipeline, capacity, whatever's relevant — not a management accounts meeting, just a plain question: what story is the evidence telling us? Then we get into the decision itself: what's the most important decision facing the business right now, what's the uncertainty, what are you assuming, what are the realistic options. We finish agreeing what happens next.

  • Look back
  • Current evidence
  • Decision session
  • What happens next

What decision are you avoiding?

Every meeting ends with this question. It might be someone who needs to leave, a price increase, an investment, a difficult conversation, stopping a product, or a disagreement between directors that keeps getting parked. We're comfortable with the silence that sometimes follows — and prepared to ask the uncomfortable question and say the things people around you sometimes won't. It's meant to feel supportive and constructive, not confrontational.

A supporting tool

The Decision Confidence Planner

For any decision that could change the future of the business, the Planner helps you work through what you're actually deciding, why it matters now, what evidence you have and wish you had, the realistic options, and what's actually stopping you deciding. It's not paperwork for its own sake — it's there to slow an important decision down just enough to think about it properly, without letting it drift indefinitely.

Better businesses aren't built by perfect decisions. They're built by informed ones.

Between meetings

Decisions between meetings

Monthly Decision Support includes access to short Decision Calls for significant decisions that can't sensibly wait until the next meeting — using the Decision Confidence Planner first. That requirement is deliberate. Completing the Planner before the call encourages you to slow the decision down, define what you're actually deciding, identify the evidence and the assumptions, and think it through properly before asking someone else what they'd do. The aim is to help you become a better decision-maker, not to create an on-demand line to call whenever something comes up.

Leadership teams

More than one person around the table?

Not every business is run by one owner. When several directors or senior leaders are involved, the challenge can look different — competing opinions, different ambitions, meetings that drift, and difficult conversations that never quite happen. MBS can provide independent challenge and facilitate the conversation, helping owner-managed leadership teams hear each other properly, get aligned, make a deliberate decision, and leave knowing what happens next.

Why MBS

Coaching backed by financial evidence.

MBS Coaching isn't generic motivational coaching. Our team has a genuine financial and commercial background, and we use that to improve the quality of the questions — not to act as your finance director or take control of financial decisions.

  • What does the evidence say?
  • What are we assuming?
  • What happens if we do nothing?
  • What aren't we seeing?

Better businesses aren't built by perfect decisions. They're built by informed ones.

Real decisions

Real decisions. Real consequences.

A few examples of the kind of thinking these conversations lead to.

Walking away from a lower offer

A business owner was negotiating a sale when the buyer cut their offer from around £2.5m to £1.6m, for reasons the owner didn't believe were justified. Working through the consequences of walking away gave them the confidence to do it. About six months later, they sold the business for £3.3m.

Not a guaranteed outcome — an example of thinking clearly when the money and the emotion were both real.

The question that changed the target

A client was planning an intake of 16 — the number that had always felt safe, because 18 was known to affect quality. When asked why not 17, the answer was obvious once someone actually asked the question. The financial difference between repeatedly targeting 16 instead of 17 came to roughly £39,000 a year.

The right question at the right time can change a decision materially.

The owner considering selling

A client believed they wanted to sell their business. Working through what they genuinely wanted, personally and financially, they ultimately decided to keep it — the business now produces more than £100k annual profit.

The answer isn't automatically growth or exit. It depends on what the owner actually wants.

These examples are based on real client experiences. Some details may be simplified to protect confidentiality. Outcomes vary, and past results don't guarantee future ones. MBS Coaching helps owners think more clearly and make better decisions — it does not guarantee a particular financial result.
